Europeans to get Alzheimer's vaccine

Alzheimer’s prevention by 2015? — MB

The first to receive the experimental vaccine will be those with the disease, according to this article. The plaques-busting drug, however, may be converted to a prophylactic.

“The clinical trials will now test its efficacy, with results expected as early as 2012, the company said.

ADO2 is meant to prevent the building up of beta-amyloid plaques in the brain, which cause the degradation of nerve cells and are believed to play a crucial role in causing Alzheimer’s disease.

The vaccine works by causing the body to attack these plaques by producing more antibodies, Till Jelitto, a spokesman for Affiris, told AFP.”

Needles no more: Proteins slip vaccines under skin

Prediction: By 2015, vaccines will become available “off the shelf” (image, “now available without a prescription”), thanks to needle-free delivery. — MB

Some Americans will receive dozens of vaccines in their lifetimes.

That’s a lot of shots, and boosters, for doctors and patients to keep track of.

Adding to the confusion, University of Michigan scientists say we will soon be able to inoculate ourselves, at home, by applying vaccines to their skin.

The researchers have devised a “non-invasive” way to use a specific protein to help vaccines pass through the skin’s outermost layers.

Making vaccines easier to administer, the Michigan scientists say, should boost patient compliance.

From a report, today:

“One particularly interesting aspect of this new non-invasive method is that the ‘boosters’ required for many vaccination protocols could be administered by the patients themselves. This could increase the success of vaccination campaigns in poor and remote regions of the world, where medical facilities are scarce.”

Doc who gave vaccines "OK" vanishes with $2 million

It's still good, right? Photo: UNICEF/Sverige

Crooked, CDC-backed vaccine doc, Poul Thorsen — he of the fudged resume — is in the wind, with $2 million that doesn’t belong to him.

This is the guy whose research slammed that of others finding possible links between preservatives in vaccines, and neurological damage to children:

“The results of the studies, that there was no link between vaccines containing mercury and autism, formed the foundation for the conclusions of several Institute of Medicine reports.

In a statement Aarhus University officials said Thorsen forged documents supposedly from the CDC to obtain the release of $2 million from the university.”

Scientists: Vaccines provide "herd immunity"

By using “herd,” the scientific community belies its insensitivity, if not its outright contempt, for the rest of humanity.

Dose the kids, protect the “herd.” That’s the language hardhearted epidemiologists are using to describe how vaccinations work to protect human populations:

“An unusual study done in 49 remote Hutterite farming colonies in western Canada has provided the surest proof yet that giving flu shots to schoolchildren protects a whole community from the disease. Although previous studies have demonstrated what scientists call ‘herd immunity,’ none have been so incontrovertible, because they were done in less isolated places with more sources of flu passing through.

Stanhope to English, Irish, herd: "Go to hell."

Credit Canadian conspiracy historian Alan Watt, for noting how scientists use the word, “herd,” in a way that fails to jibe with any citation in popular dictionaries.

The scientists are, however, using the same, precise language of that obnoxious prig, the 4th Earl of Chesterfield,  Philip Dormer Stanhope (click the excerpt below, for the full text):

Vaccinations: Scarification the way to go (study)

Jabs and mists are less effective at sparking immune system reactions, according to these findings:

New research from Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) shows that giving a vaccine through a scratch on the skin, a technique called scarification, results in a better immune response when compared to injecting the vaccine into the body, and that the amount of vaccine needed to generate the immune response through scarification is 100 times less. Nearly two centuries ago, the first vaccinations against smallpox were given via scarification. Today, virtually all modern vaccines are delivered by hypodermic needle and syringe.

Massive national study to determine causes of autism

Call to use National Children’s Study to see if vaccines *do* cause autism:

The NCS will establish over one hundred study centers across the US to test the blood of 100,000 newborns for scores of synthetic chemicals, including many EDCs. (Workers have already begun going door-to-door enrolling pregnant moms into the program.) For the next 21 years, scientists will carefully follow the children’s health, comparing the body burden of chemicals at birth to diseases developed later in life.

The NCS may be our generation’s best chance to solve the autism riddle. It is exactly the type of study needed to tease out the subtle relationships that may exist between autism and chemicals.

The astronomically higher autism risk that military families face suggests that heavy metals might be to blame.

DoD's autism epidemic

Hoping for the best. Photo: CC/Jordan

One percent of Air Force/Army/Navy/Marine brats have autism. That’s double the rate for the general population.

So I’m not surprised to read the US Defense Department’s announcement of a $2.2 grant to help the military better treat its personnel, and their families, who’ve been affected by the disease.

It may be that military moms and dads are exposed to more heavy metals in their jobs, as well as chemical and biological weapons. That, and experimental vaccines.

As a military spouse who has been contributing to Age of Autism since it was Rescue Post, I am especially thrilled. We’ve seen growth here at Age of Autism, but we’ve also seen growth of the autism epidemic both in the military and civilian community. We’ve also seen a rise in the challenges, or problems, that come along with this heartbreaking rise. In the military community the most recent FOIA shows that as of 2007, one in every eighty-eight military dependent child of an active duty member has autism. This figure most likely doesn’t include my own boys because of how and when the stats for the FOIA were tracked. Currently we’re waiting on new statistics.

Father of infodemiology cries foul over Times coverage

The father of infodemiology and infoveillance (think, Google Flu Trends, which records your illness-related searches), writes to Parallelnormal.

Google ripped-off his idea, he says, and the Times neglected to contact him for its story about Flu Trends.

An excerpt, and link to the post, where you’ll find the comment from University of Toronto Professor Gunther Eysenbach, MD:

The NYT even goes so far to (wrongly) report that “Google Flu Trends appears to be the first public project that uses the powerful database of a search engine to track the emergence of a disease.”. Wrong – apparently this reporter didn’t do his homework or checked the published literature.

CDC: Widespread needle reuse at clinics

(RediClinic is one of the “retail” healthcare clinics turning up in malls and pharmacies. Image: RediClinic website)

CDC head Dr. Julie Gerberding tells the AP (excerpt, below) that a recent finding of unsafe practices at a Nevada healthcare clinic “could represent the tip of an iceberg.”

40,000 patients might have been exposed to HIV or hepatitis, due to needle reuse and other unsafe practices at the clinic.

The quickie clinic model, meanwhile, is catching on, for folks who want to get a look-see while waiting for a prescription, or one of the hundreds of vaccine jabs they will get in their lifetimes.

MinuteClinics, for example, are appearing at CVS pharmacy locations throughout the United States.

The Associated Press: CDC Warns of Safety Problems at Clinics
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., met Monday with CDC head Dr. Julie Gerberding, and on a media conference call after their meeting both strongly condemned practices at the clinic.

Health care accreditors “would consider this a patient safety error that falls into the category of a ‘never event,’ meaning this should never happen in contemporary health care organizations,” said Gerberding.

“This is the largest number of patients that have ever been contacted for a blood exposure in a health-care setting. But unfortunately we have seen other large-scale situations where similar practices have led to patient exposures,” Gerberding said.

New Vaccine against Deadliest Strain of Avian Flu

Pandemic flu is inevitable, says this guy (below). CDC’s track record with the seasonal flu, which has already killed more than 20 U.S. children this year. The CDC has recreated the 1918 pandemic flu virus, however.

New Vaccine against Deadliest Strain of Avian Flu Tested by University of Pittsburgh Scientists – UPMC, Pittsburgh, PA, USA
Ted M. Ross, Ph.D., lead author of the study and assistant professor, Center for Vaccine Research, University of Pittsburgh. “To stem the spread of a potential pandemic, we need stockpiles of vaccines available that can be readily adapted to enhance the immune system’s response to new strains.”

A future flu pandemic is inevitable because of the virus’s ability to continually reinvent itself and the lack of broad immunity in humans, according to Dr. Ross. Influenza pandemics have occurred three times throughout modern history with deadly consequences. The first, the Spanish Flu of 1918, caused more deaths than World War I.
