Evolutionists are wringing their hands over Darwin’s legacy, again. The author of this US News column is appalled that half of Americans don’t consider evolution to be the whole human story, or part of it, or any of it.
But shit happens to science, including evolutionary theory. Who’d a thunk that Lamarck would make a comeback? His theory of acquired characteristics might indeed have some validity, as shamed-faced evolutionists must now concede.
But he (Darwin) would not be happy to learn that almost half of Americans don’t accept evolution. And he would be downright dismayed that teaching evolution is a routine source of controversy in public schools, even though organizations such as the National Science Teachers Association regard understanding evolution as essential to scientific literacy.
